He made his handicap a blessing.

Thomas Alva Edison never had a formal education. He was necked out of the school for being fickle minded. For being easily diverted and for lack of attention. In total Thomas Alva Edison had just 3 months of schooling. Poor Edison became a deaf during this period. But he never allowed his handicap dictate him. His mother took care of his education and Thomas Alva Edison’s education was the result of Homeschooling by his mother. He started selling the News papers on the trains. During this period, Thomas Alva Edison happened to save a station official’s son from being hit by a train. This brave act won him a post in the Telegraph office as a Telegraph Operator.

His request for working in the night shift for doing some harmless tinkering with the machinery was granted.

His enthusiasm and ‘Never say die’ type attitude paid rich dividends. Besides his world famous invention of incandescent lamp, he owned more than 1500 patents.
